SDM Magazine ranked NY base New York Merchants Protective Co., Inc. 55 in the Nations top 100 security alarm companies. The companies ranking increased dramatically from its 63 ranking the prior year.

SDM ( Security Dealer and Marketing ) Magazine is the predominant Security industry trade publication, for the past 16 years the magazine has published is listing of the top 100 alarm and security companies in the United States.

The objective of the SDM 100 is to measure consumer dollars captured by electronic security service providers. The majority of SDM 100 firms offer sales, installation, service, and monitoring. Collectively, the 2005 revenue for this group increased by 4 percent to $6.7 billion. However, the showing of individual companies is much more telling of their performance.

For example, among companies with which two years of revenue could be compared, 89 percent improved their revenues, while only 10 percent decreased and 1 percent was unchanged. Individually, this is the best performance by SDM 100 companies since 1997. Further, 40 of the 100 firms achieved double-digit growth in 2005.

In a $27 billion industry (2005 total industry revenues based on SDM’s Forecast Study), these top 100 firms captured $6.68 billion in revenue – about 25 percent market share – and counted 10.87 million subscribers in 2005. Most of the SDM 100 firms are privately held. Submitting total revenue is required for ranking, but other figures are not required. Most firms – but not all – also reported recurring monthly revenue (RMR), number of subscriber accounts, and installation volume.
